WSH general session held at Chekiye
Dimapur, July 26 (MExN): The Western Sumi Hoho held its general session at its office complex at Chekiye village on July 25 with H K Khulu, IAS, Commissioner of Nagaland, as the chief guest. K T Sukhalu, IAS, Secretary for food & civil supplies, and Nihoto Chishi, Secretary for law & justice, as guests of honour, shared their views for betterment and progress of the society and also challenged the leaders and elders of Western Sumi to be torchbearers of peace and tranquillity.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Khulu called upon the leaders of Western Sumi to endeavour towards bringing the spirit of togetherness and unity among one another and to set good examples to benefit the society as a whole. He was of the view that economic stability should also be given importance. Discouraging the practice of some parents trying to avail government jobs for their children by way of bribing, the chief guest pointed out that this was where all the corruption starts.
He asked the members of the WSH to cooperate with the state government to control the rampant tax collection. He said that if such kind of collections continues, the state or society would never grow economically and would rather become more corrupt. The Commissioner also asked the gathering, which comprised mostly of village chiefs, to issue land patta to the villagers through the village council and register the same with the state government. It will help the village and villagers in the long run, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Sukhalu stressed on the need to give more importance to education for a better society. Urging the gathering to bring a change in the society and to march towards brighter horizon of peace and prosperity, he said that leaders and elders with farsighted vision can take the initiative to bring transformation in the society.
Nihoto Chishi also exhorted the gathering and said that as responsible members of the community each individual should retrospect and change according to the needs of time and not take pride in wrongdoing. WSH president Hokiye Yeptho delivered the presidential address, while the gathering was enlightened with songs presented by Ilitoli Aye, Kashito Kiba, Alobo Achumi and Hovili Wotsa.
