All party meet appeals for smooth conduct of polls

KOHIMA, JANUARY 8 (MExN): Meanwhile, an all party meeting, attended by the ruling NPF, its ally BJP and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), held today appealed to all organisations who are opposing the upcoming ULB polls to pave way for smooth conduct of the polls and also allow nominations to be filed on the extended date of January 9.  

The meeting was convened by the Chief Minister at his residential office in Kohima. 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, President of NPF; KG Kenye, MP, Rajya Sabha and Secretary General, NPF; Apong Pongener, Working President NPF; Visasolie Lhoungu, President, BJP (Nagaland); Imsu Yaden, Vice President, BJP (Nagaland); Eduzu Theluo, General Secretary, BJP (Nagaland); Medokul Sophie, General Secretary, NPCC and Moa Imchen, Secretary, NPCC.  Home Minister, Y Patton was also present.  

The attendees discussed how Article 243T of the Constitution of India relating to women reservation in local bodies did not affect article 371A, informed a press note from the Chief Minister’s Office, reiterating the call for smooth conduct of the polls.  

ADC & RO Kohima re-issues notice for nomination

KOHIMA, JANUARY 8 (DIPR): In pursuance to partial modification of the notification received from the State Election Commission, the Returning Officer, KMC issued notice for nominations stating that an Election is to be held of a member to Ward No. 1 (High School), 2 (Bayavü Colony), 3 (North Block), 4 (Naga Bazaar), 5 (Kitsubozou), 6 (D. Block), 7 (Daklane), 8 (New Market), 9 (Midland), 10 (Hospital Colony), 11 (PWD Colony), 12 (Chandmari Upper Colony), 13 (Lower Chandmari), 14 (Poterlane-Old Minister Hill), 15 (A.G Colony), 16 (New Minister Hill-Lerie-NST-Dairy Farm), 17 (Agri-Forest-Electrical), 18 (Paramedical), 19 (P.R.Hill) of the Kohima Municipality.  

The notice stated that the nomination papers may be delivered by the candidate or his proposer to the Municipal Returning Officer/Assistant Returning Officer at DC Office Kohima between 11:00am and 3:00om on January 9. Forms of nomination papers may be obtained at the place and times aforesaid. The nomination papers will be taken up for scrutiny on January 10 at DC Office, Kohima.  

Notice of withdrawal of candidature may be delivered by a candidate or his proposer or his election agent (who has been authorized in writing by the candidate to deliver it) to the office specified in paragraph (2) above at his/her office latest by January 17 before 3:00pm.  

The notice further stated that in the event of the election being contested, the poll will be taken on February 1, between the hours of 7:00am and 3:30pm.
