Alleged assault at Pezielietsie condemned

Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): Condemnations poured in from several quarters today over the alleged assault of a student-teacher and his companion on May 15 at Pezielietsie, L Khel, Kohima village. 

In a joint press release, the Lhisemia Youth Organisation and Lhisemia Students’ Union condemned the assault “on our Sumi brother and his companion” and affirmed their stand against “violence in any forms on tribal lines.”

On learning about the incident in the morning of May 17, the two unions promptly took stock of the situation and the perpetrators involved were handed over to the law enforcement agency in the evening, stated the press release from LSU Presient, Dziesekhrietuo Khruomo and LYO President, Mhasimhalie M Yhome.

Stating that the unions are “enraged and utterly shocked at the barbaric act meted out by three of our Khel members which resulted in grievous injuries to the victims,” the two unions affirmed their “stand against violence in any forms on tribal lines nor stand in support of the offenders involved in the act.”  

It further conveyed solidarity to the Kohima Sumi Students’ Union and the Sumi Community in general and all right thinking citizens, in ensuring that timely justice is delivered. 

“Further we would try to ensure in our capacity that such incidents do not occur in the future,” the release added, further wishing the two victims quick recovery.

The Nagaland Law Students' Federation (NLSF) also expressed distraught over the incident and condemned the “unruly act committed by certain rogue individuals with the hatred against certain tribal community.” 

The federation further stated that Kohima is the capital of Nagaland and its atmosphere must ensure every citizen to feel proud and reside in it peacefully without fear of any rouge individual. It also flayed the alleged usage of “slanderous words” against the victims and also prayed for their speedy recovery. 

The NLSF further lauded and appreciated the organisations and police personal involved in arresting the accused in time “without giving time for any tribal issue to flare up. “

It also urged the law enforcement agency to take action against the accused by ensuring deserving punishment as per the Indian Penal Code and other relevant laws and maintained that such abusive behaviour “must be nipped in the bud as Naga Society cannot succumb to tribalism.” 

The Modern Institute of Teacher Education Students’ Union condemned the violent act against its student-teacher and his friend.

The physical assault without any reason is an inhumane and derogatory act and the union appeal the concern authorities to rightly take up actions against the culprits as per the law and ensure justice to the victims at the earliest, stated a press release from the MITESU.

The union urges the citizens to unify against such act so as to take interventions in those at heightened risk of violence in our society, added the release issued by MITESU President Zavizo Kuotsu and General Secretary Nokditola Ozukum.
