
Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): The Assam Rifles today said that an “organised set up” allegedly for collection of extortion from local populations was busted with the arrest of an NSCN (K) tax collector near BOC in Kohima on February 27.
The arrest was made by 3 Naga Hill Bn Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) alongwith Nagaland Police, an AR press note informed.
The arrest of the cadre identified as on Tokuto Aye has revealed the 'flow of extortion money' to the NPGs, it maintained.
Tax are from collected from every trader as well as local and non local worker in Kohima “through the area trade unions and is subsequently paid to NSCN(K) and other proscribed groups,” it added. The apprehendee was later handed over to OC, South Police Station, Kohima, the press note informed.
