If you’re experiencing a clothing or jewellery tragedy- whether your favourite piece is damaged or simply out of style, Alteration House is here to your rescue. Offering professional custom jewellery and clothing alteration and repair services, Alteration House is the brainchild of Nengneithem Hengna, Founder and Managing Director of Runway Nagaland based in Dimapur, Nagaland which deals in clothing, handmade jewellery, and accessories.

Hengna who is a keen promoter of local products, handmade crafts, skills stated that the idea to open Alteration House stemmed from the realization that whenever her clothes or jewellery gets damaged, especially ones that she is very fond of, it is very hard to let go.

“I am someone who is attached with every small little things and I care for it a lot, whether it’s my clothes or gifts or my jewelleries so I keep repairing it. So I understand this sentiment of not wanting to just throw away damaged or old stuffs. So feeling and keeping that in mind I opened Alteration House,” she said.

Her venture “Runway Nagaland” also offers classes on Traditional, Contemporary jewellery making, and Tailoring for women. And through the Alteration House she hopes that she can create more opportunities for her trainees. She explained, “We have so many trained tailors in Nagaland. Every second person has taken tailoring training from somewhere or the other, which is great but they end up doing nothing because we already have enough of basic learnt tailors. Runway Nagaland give tailoring trainings but honestly I feel it doesn’t give much results to the people we train. They are still unemployed! And even if they know how to stitch they end up with the problem of market and where to sell. So this alteration business will hopefully open an opportunity for them.”

This, she said is her honest thought and inspiration behind Alteration House. There are so many problems entrepreneurs in Nagaland are faced with. She hopes that Government and departmental agencies would give more impetus to jewellery makers and craftsmen. “Our Nagaland jewellery is very beautiful, people love it wherever I’ve displayed. In fact this is what inspired me to open a jewellery unit and training centre in the first place,” she added.

“We just started the unit so let’s see the feedback and response from people and where we can take this venture upto. I’m hopeful that these will at least benefit people and maybe even create job opportunities,” she said.

Alteration House is located at Rezaki Complex, Valley View, Dimapur, Nagaland or you could call +91 7085059325.
