Amend NM Act 2001 in consultation with all stakeholders: NPCC asserts

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 10 (MExN): Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Friday urged for amendment of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 as amended up to date in consultation with all the stakeholders in the spirit of Article 371 A.

Since NM Act is a Nagaland Legislative Assembly Act, the NPCC in a press statement said it saw no reason why the DAN government should approach the President or Prime Minister of India for Ordinance for exemption of Part IX A of the Indian Constitution. It apprehended that such “misadventure may infringe upon Art 371A.

Alleging that the DAN Government failed to listen to the people and betrayed the JCC and NBCC and the people of Nagaland, thus leading to a complete breakdown of constitution in the state, the NPCC said their lethargic attitude has brought irretrievable division in the minds of men and women, government and the people.

The NPCC also reiterated its endeavour to solve the Naga political problem through peaceful and constitutional means and serve as a bridge between Naga National Groups and Government of India.

“We have initiated peaceful negotiation and we continue to stand for peaceful negotiation. The 60 MLAs have come together assuring the public to bring about Naga political settlement; instead, they have divided Nagas into sections and have miserably failed to bring solution,” the press statement said.

The NPCC also informed that it would be sending a delegation to Delhi to apprise AICC on the present situation.
