Amid rising forest fires, DC Kohima bans jungle burning

KOHIMA, APRIL 15 (MExN): In response to the rising incidents of forest fires across the district, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, has issued an official order reiterating a complete ban on the burning of jungles and forested areas.

The order noted that both deliberate and negligent acts of setting forest areas on fire have significantly contributed to the spread of wildfires, resulting in severe damage to wildlife habitats, public property, and posing serious threats to human lives.

Invoking Section 162 of the BNSS, the DC stated that such actions are considered public nuisances as they disturb public tranquility and present imminent danger to life and property. As a result, the enforcement of the ban is to be strictly followed by all individuals and groups.

Violators of this directive will face legal action under relevant provisions of the BNSS, the Nagaland Forest Act of 1968, and the Rules for the Administration of Justice and Police in Nagaland, 1937. The district administration has urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate fully in preventing forest fires to safeguard the environment and community welfare.
