Anaki Village Council asks Assam police to vacate their land

Dimapur, July 13 (MExN): The Anaki village Council today appealed to the Assam police and the migrants encroaching in Naga areas to vacate the areas they are occupying in Nagaland saying that they would be held responsible for any untoward incident in the future.

A press release issued by the Chairman of the Anaki ‘C’ Village Council, I Kumzuk Longkumer, today, while condemning the arson and killing in the border areas on July 5 last, reiterated that the incident occurred well inside the Naga areas of Ladigrah A&B; areas which are recognized under the Nagaland Village and Area Council Act of 1972.

However, the release stated that even though the areas are under the Nagaland state, the FIR and assessment of loss of property and lives have been conducted by the Assamese officials though it should have been done by the Nagaland government officials.

“The FIR and assessment of property and lives have should have been conducted by the authorities from Nagaland but all these have been done by Assam police and its official and also still occupying the area by force from Assam which is a serious gross border violation and for that matter Nagaland Govt is a mute spectator,” stated the release.

Nonetheless, the release once again condemned the incident and stated that the Anaki village council will leave no stone unturned to trace the culprits and at the same time promised to extend all possible help to the authorities to in this connection.

However, the release cautioned the Assamese side that if they continues to harass or threatens the innocent villagers, then the villagers would not be held responsible for any untoward incidents in the future, and at the same time asked the Assam police or the migrants occupying the territorial lands of the villagers to vacate the lands before the matter goes from bad to worse.
