ANCA stresses on need for professional role of counsellors

The All Nagaland Counsellors' Association (ANCA) had a discussion with Nagaland’s Governor La Ganesan at Raj Bhavan Kohima on December 17.

During the discussion, the Association expressed the need for the professional role of counsellors to cater to the needs of mental and emotional well-being of the people particularly the students and children in the increasing complexities and stresses of modern day living.

The Association impressed the Governor to take necessary steps to address the needs for vocational guidance and career counseling so as to respond to the increasing unemployment crisis among the educated unemployed youth in the State.

In view of this need, the Association proposed to launch various programmes like training of teachers on counseling, career counseling, vocational guidance, training program on mental health, alternative therapies and AYUSH, family counseling and development of resource material on counselling.

ANCA expressed the need for professionally trained counsellors in every school to cater to the needs of personal social, career development, academic progress and mental emotional well-being of the students.

The Governor was impressed with the discussion and assured the Association to extend all possible help to ensure that counseling services for students are available in all higher secondary schools in Nagaland.
