ANCSU demands measures for well being of students

DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has appealed to the Nagaland Government to take measures to ensure the well being of students.

In a letter to the Directorate of Higher Education, the ANCSU demanded action with regard to release of scholarship, waiver of fees and college infrastructure.

The union asked that the Planning Department and Finance Department expedite the file process of issuing drawal authority for the Post Matric Scholarship 2019-2020. It informed that the department is expecting the drawal authority in the next few days.

The ANCSU said that it has already met the Finance Commissioner for immediate release of the scholarship. It informed that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has sanctioned and released Rs 17,30,59,000 as first installment of 50% central share  for PMS ST 2019-2020.

It meanwhile asked the Higher Education Department to urge Nagaland University for early issue of notification/guidelines relating to exam and academic calendar.

It further appealed the department to find possibilities of waiving fees for the economically weak students. It urged affluent parents/guardians to extend financial help to the colleges/institutes. The union also expressed concern that the faculty (both teaching and non teaching) should not be deprived of their salary and welfare.

The ANCSU also asked the department to issue common directive to all colleges to intake maximum students for the next academic session as the ongoing situation may discourage the students from opting to study outside the state.

Meanwhile pointing out that some government colleges continue to suffer without Principals, the union appealed that the same be posted in these colleges. It informed that as per the department, necessary proceedings have been completed and that after the Department Promotion Committee meeting on May 27, the proposal will be approved and Principals would be placed henceforth.

While expressing concern over the state of IT infrastructure in colleges, the union stressed on the need to prepare for online facilities in every college.

Establishment of College Management System/College Dashboard to facilitate e-book study materials, submission of assignments, display of students monthly attendance/internal marks(through the students private account), special online classes, etc were suggested.

It also expressed concern that in a few parts of the state, some students were asked to vacate their hostels during the lockdown period. The union therefore appealed the department to take stern action against such hostels. In response, the department assured that in the wake of such case, the hostel permits would be cancelled and necessary action would be taken.

The union further called for formulation of regulations for the coaching institutes in the state.

Another appeal was for the department to tie up with the concerned authority and issue a common rate for online scholarship application fee charged by the cyber cafe's/groups/individuals.

Meanwhile, expressing concern at the requisitioning of colleges and hostels as quarantine centers, the ANCSU said that the district administration should take the confidence of the department, college/institute authority and concerned village council in such cases.

'Establish exam centers in every district'
The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) on May 21 observed that exam centers should be established in every district to conduct Nagaland State Entrance Exam (NSEE), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and North East Council (NEC) examination in the wake of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) notification to conduct exams.

In its letter to the Director, Technical Education Nagaland, the ANCSU also said that the candidates should be given preference to choose their exam centers as per their residence so that no student will be deprived of appearing the said exams.

Such exams centers should be identified at the earliest and necessary preparations relating to exam and to fight the threat of COVID-19 should be kept ready, the Union said.

The Union also appealed for release of the State Technical Scholarship to the beneficiaries without any further delay as the amount has been already sanctioned and released.
