ANCSU keeps stir on ‘conditional’ abeyance

Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): The ANCSU has decided to keep its proposed “course of action in abeyance” following news reports that the State’s finance department had released an amount of Rs 7.71 crore for payment towards pending Post Matric Scholarship (PMS).

The ANCSU, on March 21, had cautioned that it will not allow any college to function if the state government fails to credit the pending PMS amounts to the beneficiaries by March 26.

“Also in view of the upcoming semester examination the ANCSU after much deliberation resolved to let the colleges/institutions function smoothly,” the Union said in a press release issued by its General Secretary Vimeyiekho Vitso and Vice President & Chairman Grievances Committee, Benjong Longchar.

The decision was taken during a meeting with its 15 Dimapur-based affiliated colleges held at Eastern Christian College Dimapur on March 25, it said. The Dimapur-based colleges and secondary institutions are the most affected institutions with 11335 students and 69 institutions, it added.

The union further appealed the higher education department and respective banks to expedite the process in depositing the scholarship amount to the beneficiaries before the upcoming semester exam scheduled from April 5.

“Failing which the ANCSU shall go to any course of action, to any extent,” it said adding, the union shall be vigilant in this matter until justice is restored.

Meanwhile, ANCSU also lauded the Chief Minister for making the alternative arrangement made for the payment while anticipating the amount from the ministry.

“This arrangement could have been made earlier before any arguments took place in any manner,” it further opined.
