DIMAPUR, JUNE 24 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) today condemned the June 22 resolution affirmed by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI), in particular reference to raising of funds and conducting checks in business establishments.
A press release from the ANCSU Finance Secretary, Inato Y Chisho and Education Secretary, Kruto Tetseo stated that the DCCI’s resolution was “misleading and deserves to be condemned in the highest grade.”
“The DCCI terming the students' union activity of raising funds as illegal is an open opposition to the student fraternity,” it stated. On this, ANCSU maintained that any form of fund raising “is purely anticipated on well wishers and not by force.”
The union asked the DCCI to clarify “on which grounds it has termed the students union fundraise activities as illegal.” It said that the DCCI holds “no authority to dictate the manner in which the student bodies would sustain its visionary activities.”
“The DCCI cannot harass and boast over the innocent student unions just because they are financially stable,” the ANCSU stated, while reminding the chamber that “it will come down heavily on those business establishments who may harass the student community by words or action on any occasion.”
It further questioned the DCCI putting a ban on individuals and organizations to search for expiry goods and MRP. It questioned what “if the business establishments have openly declared that it had been and will be continuing to practice illegal sale of expired goods and tampered market retail prices?”
It stated that the ANCSU along with the consumers and other concerned organisations would continue to check on illegal sale expired goods and tampered MRP's.
“The resolution taken on June 22 by the DCCI clearly seems to be a resolution to oppress the students in particular and society in general,” it stated. It however hoped that the business establishments would continue to extend their support and cooperation towards the student community as an obligation.
The ANCSU meanwhile pointed out that the Dimapur market has been “occupied by outsiders to more than 90% of the total economy.” Considering this scenario, the ANCSU asked whether the DCCI would be able to bear the consequences of the possible “social and economic threat to Nagas” arising out of a monopolized market.
“The DCCI have blindly scratched the democratic rights of the citizens,” the ANCSU stated, and reminded the chamber that “permission need not be sought from their organization to perform its fundamental rights.” Rather, the ANCSU advised the DCCI to extend “utmost cooperation keeping aside their money minded business policy.”
The union meanwhile appealed to all “right thinking citizens to come in the forefront and fight against the unwelcoming resolution of DCCI which has now put the welfare of the citizens at stake.” It further cautioned that the ANCSU would “retaliate against such kind of ill forces that seek to shatter the peaceful coexistence of Naga society.”
