ANCSU seeks Enquiry Commission to probe fund utilization at KPA

Kohima, August 31 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU) has written to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland demanding that an Enquiry Commission be set up to look into the utilization of funds allocated to the  Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA) under the  All India Council for Technical Education- North East Quality Improvement Programme (AICTE-NEQIP) scheme.

In the letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the ANCSU President, Vice President and General Secretary stated that it had filed an application under the Right to Information Act, 2005, seeking information on the various activities in KPA under the scheme in November 2019.

A reply was received in February 12, 2020, where it was informed that the institute had received a total of Rs 3,71,60,000, in three installments, which was ‘fully expensed.’

“The union also visited the institute and had the privilege to witness the activities under the AICTE-NEQIP scheme along with some lecturers of the institute. However, the union is thoroughly unsatisfied with the claimed developments through the funds received,” the letter stated.

Following the ‘Educational Tour’ to KPA, ANCSU issued a press release on February 16, asking the Minister concerned and the department to set up an enquiry commission on the matter but received “lackadaisical response” from the department, it said.

As such, the union demanded that the Chief Secretary intervenes and set up an Enquiry Commission within 30 days.

“The commission should bring out the report within one month from the date of the commission set up,” it said, while adding that the Chief Secretary should also take cognizance of similar scheme implementations in other institutes.
