The 31st Foundation Day of All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) was observed today at Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Conference Hall with former president, Tsenchumo Lotha as the special guest. Addressing the gathering Lotha highlighted that the formation of ANCSU in the early 70s, as NSF was the only platform actively involved for the students community, yet as social burden and turmoil increased, NSF could not address the grievances of the students and that was the time the seniors initiated to form ANCSU especially to confront student affairs.
He also said besides the ‘step motherly treatment’ of North East Hill University (NEHU), Nagaland State Government also could not meet the demands of the students, there was also a lapse and silent period for sometime which was later revived under the leadership of Theja Therieh (former president). Stating that ANCSU is a very strong united platform, he urged upon the people not to put any threat that will divide the house. “The house should be respected and should not be a thorn at any cause,” said Lotha. Lotha also fervently urged ANCSU with the co-operation of the students to revamp the ‘Education System’ in Nagaland. He also initiated two minutes silent prayer in remembrance of the departed leaders of ANCSU and for a peaceful repose of their souls.
President NSF, Mutsikhoyo Yhobu in his brief address said August 2 reminds of the foundation and achievements of the ANCSU pioneers who delivered tireless service for the younger generation and students’ community. Yhobu said ANCSU is the most active supportive sub-ordinate body of NSF and the right platform to restructure and lead the global students.
“ANCSU is the only platform irrespective of all tribes, therefore, not only in the field of education but I challenge ANCSU, to be sincere and put an effort to bring unity and peace in the society,” said Yhobu. Former speaker, Kuzoto Lohe, also in his short speech said it is a day which deserves to be observed, remember and pay respect to the founding members for their service rendered to the Naga students. ANCSU being the pillar of the students, Lohe called upon the executives of ANCSU, to maintain the trust that people look upon.
“We should be able to stand on our own feet, we are unemployed because we don’t know how to employ ourselves, government job should be our last resort,” maintained Lohe, adding that most of the private entrepreneurship is occupied by non- locals, he appealed upon ANCSU to organize vocational trainings as it has wider scope. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Assistant General Secretary, Metsiviko Meyase and welcome note was delievered by Acting President, Yanbemo Humtsoe. Pastor, Phom Baptist Church, Phomlee Van and Deputy Speaker, Imliangshi Kichu pronounced invocation and benediction respectively.
