ANCSU wants NU VC out

Dimapur, October 12 (MExN): In an unexpected turn of events today, a usually-quiet All Nagaland College Students’ Union lashed out furiously at Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University Prof. Kannan, calling him a “big liar”, an “irresponsible and disastrous person” who treats Nagas as ‘dogs’ and is “dragging the university from bad to worst.” The ANCSU has questioned the appointment of Kannan as VC of the already-beleaguered university.

The ANCSU called Kannan a “big liar” over a number of statements reportedly made by the vice chancellor on October 11 on a number of issues including the crisis in Nagaland University. Had the VC been replace by an efficient and accountable person, NU would have been a “haven” from any strike or agitations.  The opinions of the VC on the state of Nagaland University are termed “intolerable” and a “mockery to the Nagas” by the ANCSU, in a statement issued to the media today.

On the VC’s purported statement that “education is the only viable hope for Nagaland, which can transform society to its true potential and that is my vision here as VC” the ANCSU said the “statement as true, but spoken out by a big liar because he has no concern for the Nagas and treats the Nagas as dogs.” The VC has never fulfilled the charter of demands made by students in spite of intervention from every corner of Naga society, ANCSU said.

The ANCSU also ridiculed the VC on his claim of having “inherited so many ailments” and that he was “made of sterner stuff.” He has compounded the existing ailments beyond irreparable proportion, ANCSU said.

On Kannan’s statement against the teaching staffs blaming them of seriously damaging the university, the association said “the VC should know that the students acknowledges the genuine issue raised as the issues are ‘students centric’ and for the betterment of the university”.

The VC’s claim about not being able to hold examinations on time “due to strikes and agitations” is also ridiculed. “Had he been replaced by another person with efficiency, responsibility and free from corruptions”. NU will be a same haven free from any form of strikes and agitations,” the association said. In regard to the issue of shifting the university campus to Lumami and Kohima campus to Meriema, the ANCSU said the efforts are a sincere activity of teaching staffs, non-teaching staffs and students, who are still toiling hard without proper infrastructure and basic facilities. The VC should not blow his trumpet, ANCSU quipped.

The union further questions the “concerned authority responsible for the appointment of irresponsible and disastrous person like Prof. Kannan as Vice-Chancellor, who is dragging the university from bad to worst.”
