ANDWU holds annual meeting, elects new executive members

Dimapur, December 11 (MExN): The annual general body meeting of the All Nagaland Domestic Workers Union (ANDWU) was held on December 10 at the Assisi Auditorium, Dimapur, commencing at 12:20 pm. The event brought together 355 members representing 31 colonies.

The programme began with an address by Advocate Priya, who spoke about the crucial role played by the union’s office bearers and members in upholding the dignity and rights of domestic workers. She emphasised the strength of collective action and the indispensable contributions of women domestic workers to society.

A highlight of the meeting was a sharing session led by members Asela, Maya, and Muni, who had recently attended a training programme in Puri. They discussed topics covered during the training, including cybercrime, security, and the rights and responsibilities of domestic workers, offering valuable insights to empower attendees.

Kiran presented a report on the union’s yearly programmes, detailing its accomplishments and activities over the past year. This was followed by a financial report from Punam.

The election of five new executive members was also held. Former Vice President Hoyili was succeeded by Muni Dev, while other outgoing members were replaced by Nasima Begum, Thushi, Meena Singh, and Vihoni Chopi.

The newly elected members were felicitated by Sr Pramila, Director of the Assisi Centre for Integrated Development and Coordinator of the NDWM Nagaland Region, alongside Advocate Priya Shyam.

Sr Jobina highlighted the vital contributions of each member to the union’s growth and success, while Elizabeth elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of the newly elected governing body members. Tusula Jacinta coordinated the event. The programme concluded with a prayer led by Caroline.
