ANEFWA to agitate from today against nonpayment of salaries

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 29 (MExN): With no response forthcoming from the state government on demand for release of salaries to 66 regularised Operation & Maintenance Staff (OMS) under the Department of Power, the All Nagaland Electricity Field Workers Association (ANEFWA) on Tuesday announced that it would begin agitation from August 30 onwards.

The Association, in a press release, said it had given a 15-days ultimatum to the state government on August 14 to release the pending salaries of 66 OMS who were regularized vide ENCP Order No. 547, 548, 549, 550, 551, 552, 553, 554 dated January 17, 2023 and were performing their bona fide duties.

It mentioned that the OMS have been performing their duties in their respective place of posting, which is in cliff ridge forest areas, for maintenance of power lines since January 2023.

However, the Association said the government of the day have not taken any action which, it lamented “display the unconcerned attitude towards the members of this Association.” It therefore said it was compelled to stage agitation as prescribed under a democratic government.

Given the circumstances, the Association has appealed the district administration, the general public to bear with them during the time of protest. It also requested the general public to support their cause and to join in advocating for the rights and well-being of these dedicated field workers.

“An exploitive government exploiting its own employees causing immense hardships to its own employees and the inaction of not paying the salaries legally due to those employees should be condemned by all the right thinking citizens of the state,” the Association stated.
