DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 11 (MExN): The Angami Student’s Union Shillong (ASUS) held its 55th Fresher's Day Meet 2023 at Naga Community Hall, Nongrim Hill Shillong on September 9.
Speaking at the meet as the guest speaker, Vice President of BJP Nagaland, Kevidezo Peter Rutsa exhorted the students that studying should be their foremost priority, adding that time and tide waits for no man while age is not always on one’s side.
He asked the student not to waste their time, rather to make haste in studies. Studying is like a battle, the longer the fight goes on, the wearier the mind and body becomes, he added. Emphasizing on the importance of community, Rutsa asked the students to keep in touch with their community as it is essential in one’s growth and inclusive of the learning process. He also thanked the presence of the various tribal students' union bodies of Shillong in the programme and encouraged them to make it a tradition.
President of Angami Krotho Shillong, Khriesaneisa Rutsa in his exhortations reminded the students that while they live and pursue their studies in Shillong, they need to show their gratitude as well as have good and cordial relation with the local people to pave the way for the younger generations.
He also enlightened that in 1920's, the Angamis started moving to Shillong to study, wherein ASUS was formed 1968. Rutsa viewed that it was the elders of the Angami Community that had built a good image and relationship with the Khasis. He therefore said, Khasis still respect the Angamis and they do not hesitate to rent their houses to the Angamis.
Hence, Rutsa urged the students to be good ambassadors of Angamis as well as Nagas. The President also encouraged the students of their purpose of staying in Shillong, their priority and management of time. Rutsa further encouraged them to keep in touch with their students leaders for any problems.
On the occasion, Mhalelhoubei Keyho and Mhalevinuo Solo were crowned Mister and Miss Freshers respectively.
The celebration was marked by performances from special guest artist Mengu Suokhrie; speech on behalf of the freshers was presented by Vikehenuo Kengurüse; special numbers were performed by Neikie-ü Yashü, Imkikumzuk Imsong and Thejakielie Levi respectively.
