Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): The All Nagaland Government College Contract Teachers’ Association (ANGCCTA) has written an open letter to the Chief Minister of Nagaland regarding enhancement of their salaries.
The contract college teachers receive a fixed salary of Rs.20000/-, which the Association stated is very low. It highlighted that the teachers are “suffering a lot due to discrimination” in payment of salary. “We have been appointed as Assistant Professor Class-I Gazette but when it comes to income we are economically deprived due to non-enhancement of salary,” lamented the letter issued by Executive Members of ANGCCTA.
Pointing out that the State Education Committee on April 1, 2016 and in October 2016 had discussed regarding enhancement of their salary from Rs.20000/- to Rs.30000/-, the teachers said the Committee had recommended and sent a proposal to the State government for implementation but it has not been implemented yet.
“Thus, we feel that this is the right time and we believe that you are the right person who will understand our grievances bearing in mind as per the UGC guidelines even the Assistant Professors on contract are supposed to be paid the scale but with due understanding about the deficit problem in our state we don’t seek for enhancement without having a sense of understanding,” ANGCCTA urged the CM.
The teachers also lamented that it has been a decade that their salary has not been enhanced as promised (from Rs. 20000/- to Rs. 40000/- fixed).
