Angry workers warn of “mega damages”

Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): A frustrated All Nagaland Electricity Field Workers Association today sternly cautioned the state government that the workers’ patience is wearing thin “like piles of hay waiting for a matchstick” and ready for “mega damages” after almost years of waiting for action on the regularization of 336 employees.

They have demanded implementation of the regularization order of the government for some of the association’s members. The association also stated that it shall resume its agitations until the authorities regularize the said work-charged technical employees as approved earlier.

The ANEFWA warned the state government that the frustration and “the tendency for destruction of property worth many crores are building up in different zones” as the state has failed to address the grievances of the workers. After eight years long struggle for the association’s members, the chief minister had considered their cause and approved regularization of 336 of work-charged technical employees.

The association had also called off its agitations in January this year. The association had started its fight in 2000 but the authorities had failed to look into their demands.

The association warned: “The ANEFWA hereby makes it very clear that the tendency for destruction of property worth many crores are building up in different zones due to the adamant action of the concerned authorities in disposing off the matter and consequent frustration of field staff. The same is getting uncontrollable like piles of hay waiting for a matchstick and the matter, if not handled with utmost urgency and speedily shall bring mega damages and in such eventuality both the government and the members of the association shall stand at great loss.”
