Zunheboto: KVK Nagaland University conducted a daylong health camp at VK Town in Zunheboto district. Animal, plant and soil health camp were conducted at the same time and at the same place so that the farmers get a common platform to solve the problems related to animals, plants and soil.
Dr. Nongothung Ezung SMS (Animal Science) led animal health camp. It was found that most of the animals were severely infected with internal parasites, have poor growth rate. In poultry birds CRD was the main problem responsible for early chick mortality. Altogether 52 farmers and nearly 200 animals were treated and free medicines were provided.
Wapangtoshi SMS (plant protection) who provided plant health support to 41 farmers who are currently facing problems in citrus, Banana, Mango, Paddy, Maize crops etc led plant health camp. Bio-control agents for seed treatment, bio-pesticides and some insecticides were provided to the farmers for insect pests and diseases control on the crops.
Sentimenla Jamir, SMS (Soil Science), led soil Health Camp. Soil samples collected from 45 farmer’s field were tested on various parameters such as PH, organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to know the status of their soils. Recommendations on fertilizers, manuring and crops were suggested basing on the soil testing report.
The Programme Coordinator Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia expressed his gratitude to MLA 31 AC Khekaho Assumi who was present during the health camp and motivated the farmers and appreciated the efforts taken by the KVK for extending their support to farming community to increase their productivity.
