A special court in Kohima, in its latest order,has dismissed the bail petition of Hema Choudhary, a Mumbai-based animal rights activist who is currently under judicial custody. While her bail application was heard last week by the special court, the order was subsequently reserved.
According to a reliable source, the bail petition was rejected on August 25. The person also cited that the bail application may have been rejected since the case is under investigation and the court may have held that more time needs to be given to the investigating agency to investigate the case thoroughly.
The animal rights activist who was charged under various sections 153A/153B/505(1)/505(2) of the IPC, read with, sections 3(r)/3(s)/3(u) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for making derogatory remarks targeting Nagaland had earlier filed application for bail which was heard on August 21. Meanwhile, another source stated that since the lower court has rejected the petition, she will have to move High Court.
