Anomalies in NU’s staff quota

Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): The Nagaland University Non-Teaching Staff Association is unhappy at a number of discrepancies said to be in the implementation of reservation for various staff categories in the university. The NUNTSA today said it has taken note of the discrepancies and has assured that it would leave no stone unturned to protect the rights of local candidates.

Explaining the said discrepancy, the NUNTSA wrote to the Registrar of the university to look into the matter. The association reminded the NU authorities that the Ministry of Personnel, Government of India, notified on July 5, 2005, that the quantum of reservation for Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribes and Other Backward Category (in case of direct recruitment to group-C and ‘D’) has been revised. The three categories normally attract candidates from a locality or a region, the notification stated.

The NUNTSA said that the percentage of ST in Nagaland is 45% while Schedule Caste and OBC stood ‘Nil.’ Here, the association took note of an advertisement of the university on August 10 that the “the same has not been followed.” The NUNTSA has demanded from the registrar that the matter should be rectified and action taken “immediately so as to avoid unwanted consequences.”
