Dimapur | May 24
A day after a newborn was found abandoned in Kohima, another newborn was rescued in Dimapur on May 24. The baby was found wrapped in a plastic sack and placed inside drain on the western side of State Stadium, by a passerby.
According to him, he was going to get his cow when he heard a baby cry. “It was around 2:40 pm. I heard the sound of a baby crying. The sound was coming from inside the drain. So I checked, only to find a sack from where the sound was coming,” he said.
He added that he called some youths, who were nearby, and together took out the sack. “We found a baby inside with ‘Huggies’ on and a ‘clip’ on the umbilical cord.”
They stopped a police vehicle, which was coming out from the nearby NAP (IR) camp and the baby was put into the custody of the Women Police Station.
The police later informed that the baby was admitted to the newborn intensive care unit of a hospital in Dimapur.
“It appears to be an institutional (hospital) birth going by the clamp found on the umbilical cord. Preliminary investigation is on,” said a police official.
