The number of vehicular mishaps in the Purana Bazaar-Chümoukedima 4-lane stretch of NH 29 has reportedly come down since the police clamp down on wrong-lane driving. At the same time, the need for stronger enforcement and greater compliance from commuters has become all the more apparent as there was yet another accident on the 4-lane.

Fortunately there was no casualty.

The accident, involving a van and a motor-cycle, occurred at the Purana Bazaar junction around 3:00-4:00 pm, Sunday. According to the police, the van was reportedly making a u-turn when it collided with a motor-cycle proceeding towards Chümoukedima.

The two riders of the motor-cycle escaped with minor bruises, while the occupants of the van were unhurt, the police said. No complaint was registered by the police as the parties involved came to a settlement, it was added.

An earlier accident of similar nature occurred at the Diphupar junction in 4th Mile on December 28. In that incident, an autorickshaw collided with a Gypsy, which was making a U-turn. The driver of the autorickshaw sustained minor injuries.

Collisions at intersections or crossings along the 4-lane has become a great concern even as the expansion of the road has eased congestion.
