Kohima, February 15 (MExN): The All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) has called for greater school autonomy and innovation to strengthen education in the state, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP).
In a press release, ANPSA said education must move beyond rote learning towards skill-based, competency-driven approaches that prepare students for real-life challenges. It highlighted the role of private schools in introducing concept-based learning, experiential projects, co-curricular programmes and vocational courses, often without external funding.
The association stressed that vocational education, including skills such as coding, entrepreneurship and communication, is essential for today’s evolving job landscape, particularly in the North-East where self-employment plays a key role.
It maintained that such learning complements core academic subjects and should be integrated flexibly based on local needs.
Calling for a shift from “exam-ready” to “life-ready” education, ANPSA emphasised competency-based learning and holistic development, including sports, arts and digital skills.
Addressing the issue of costs, ANPSA stated that quality education requires sustained investment in infrastructure, teacher training, laboratories, digital tools and student activities.
It pointed out that private schools in Nagaland operate without significant grants and urged society to view education as a long-term investment in human capital.
It also noted that quality education requires sustained investment in infrastructure, trained teachers and modern facilities, urging society to view education as a long-term investment.
The Association further called for sensitivity in handling educational matters, urging that concerns be addressed through structured dialogue rather than public confrontation.
It emphasised the need to protect examination sanctity and maintain peaceful learning environments, while also urging responsible media reporting on educational issues.
The release from the ANPSA Central Body, thus, called upon all stakeholders to work together in trust and responsibility so that the future of children remains the central focus of education.
