ANSAM upset by NPCC stand on textbook case

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 13 (MExN): The All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), which is working towards achieving a unified educational curriculum for all Naga students, is upset by the recent statement issued by the President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) throwing speculation over the ongoing struggle to gain affiliation of schools in the four hill districts in Manipur under the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE).

While appreciating the NPCC concern over the so called ‘hasty steps’ that affiliating private schools from another state would add more problem to the state’, ANSAM in a press communiqué issued by Daniel PK, Secretary, Education & Statistic has stated that it was cautiously taking note, the very nature in which the President NPCC is trying to translate the relationship of students across the stretch of Naga homeland.

“The decision to grant affiliation to private schools under NBSE is very much a matter of political decision of the concern state legislature apart from the positive level of honor and privilege it receives for such calls”, ANSAM stated.

Pointing out that the demand for affiliation by south Naga students to NBSE is a ‘conscious and deliberate action towards creating a common educational syllabus for our united vision,’ ANSAM stated that the various private school and students struggling for this end has undergone a collective process of debate  and discussions prior to launching of the movement for affiliation to the Nagaland Board of School Education. “We do not agree with the likely ‘imposition’ of NBSE syllabus as cited in the NPCC President’s statement” ANSAM maintained.

“In any movement for change, there are obvious hurdles and elements of uncertainties that need to be confronted and overcome, but to raise questions of clinical accuracy for outcome of such process is to negatively impede the struggle by creating confusion and raising false alarm in the mind of the common man, wherein the risk taking part which determines the success or failure of gaining such aspiration are stifled”, ANSAM stated.

The ANSAM reiterated that it will uphold the nonviolent democratic decision and continue working persistently towards achieving the objective of ‘breaking down barriers’ that has kept the Naga students community emotionally, psychologically and physically divided. “It is through the mass action for common grounds where unity can be nurtured and strengthened to provide dignity and fraternity for the Naga students wherever they are”, it stated.

ANSAM appealed to all concern political parties to critically understand and support this initiative towards achieving a unified educational curriculum for all Naga students’. It stated that it was confident that by contributing positively towards this end, the leadership of the day is investing in the maximum development of Nagas’ future human resource which is being severely threatened at this point of time by vested interests.

ANSAM further appealed to all Nagas irrespective of interests and affiliations to seriously concur and collectively work towards realizing the Justpeace for the sake of generations yet to come.
