Members and dignitaries of the All Nagaland Sumi Aphuyemi Senior Citizens’ Forum (ANSASCF) gathered during the International Day of Older Persons celebration at Pughoboto Town Hall, Zunheboto, on October 1.
Pughoboto, October 1 (MExN): The All Nagaland Sumi Aphuyemi Senior Citizens’ Forum (ANSASCF), Pughoboto, observed the International Day of Older Persons 2026 at Pughoboto Town Hall, Zunheboto, on October 1. The programme was held on the theme, “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives.”
President of the Senior Citizen Association Nagaland (SCAN), Dr I Pihoto Khala, attended as the chief guest and delivered the message for the day. Speaking on the theme, Dr Khala, referring to Proverbs 16:31 and Psalms 92:14, said old age should not be viewed as a useless phase of life. He said the wisdom and practical experience of older persons could not be substituted despite advances in technology and artificial intelligence. He urged senior citizens to take pride in their age and experience and encouraged them to support one another and serve as a source of encouragement to the younger generation.
Retired additional director of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Nagaland, Dr Atoshe Kiba, spoke on preventive healthcare among older persons. He advised regular health check-ups, a balanced diet and remaining physically and socially active. Dr Kiba also demonstrated simple exercises for healthy living and urged families to pay greater attention to the health and emotional well-being of elderly members.
Former principal of the State College of Teachers Education and ANSASCF executive member Sukhavi Swu felicitated senior citizens of the area.
ANSASCF general secretary Shivito Wotsa chaired the programme, while retired deputy director of the Agriculture Department, Inavi Swu, delivered the vote of thanks. Mishilimi presented a special number.
The programme was attended by senior citizens and members of the forum and was held for the first time in the Sumi Aphuyemi area.
