Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The All Nagaland Taxi Association Zunheboto unit, in an emergency meeting on June 29 vehemently condemned the incident wherein FGN cadres numbering 40-50 cadres accosted five Tata Sumos at Shothazu Village under Chozuba Sub-division on June 29 last. The Sumos were carrying passengers from Dimapur to Zunheboto.
According to a press release by ANTA, Zbto Unit General Secretary Ananto H. Zhimomi, the cadres “after stopping the vehicles forces the passengers to lay stranded on the road in the middles of the monsoon rain, and took charge of the vehicles to transport themselves to Zulhami Village, around 19 Kms from Shothazu”.
Zhimomi remarked that this kind of unnecessary harassment has continued despite repeated requests to the ‘higher-ups of the respective factions to refrain from these sorts of activities and to restrain their cadres.’ He further questioned the negligence of highway patrolling squad of Chozuba sub-division, ‘whose irregular patrolling has led to this kind of incidents persisting frequently in this particular area.
The ANTA in this meeting today therefore resolved to ‘request the concerned faction to restrain their cadres from such unnecessary harassment in future, and the taxis coming under ANTA Zbto Unit jurisdiction after reviewing these situations has decided to change travel routes w.e.f 30 June 2007, until the concerned faction issue a safety guarantee to passenger Taxis in that particular area. In this regard, the statement has directed all taxis from Zunheboto to Kohima/Dimapur to ply from Wokha route instead of Chozuba route and that any taxi plying in that Chozuba route shall be doing so at their own risk and will be penalized under ANTA regulations.
