She sees an enormous scope for the horticulture industry in Nagaland. Her passion for flower resulted in owning a large plantation area of Anthurium at Sovima, Dimapur. Yes, she is Akhruzou Putsure, wife of Norman Putsure, Secretary for Land Resources Development, Nagaland. A member of Blossom Florist, Akhruzou is said to be the biggest Anthurium grower in Nagaland.

She resigned from her government job and took-up floriculture on full time basis at Sovima, Dimapur. Akhruzou has already established a market-link in Delhi, where 800 to 1000 stems of Anthurium are being dispatched on a weekly basis.

Employing 15 youths on  a permanent basis in her Anthurium farm, Akhruzou has earned a huge amount of admiration. Out of 15 employees, 7 are girls and 8 boys. Most of them are Class X drop-outs. Some widows are also provided jobs there. On being queried about the income scenario from her flower farm, Akhruzou said she does not bother about ‘gain or loss,’ adding that she is fully satisfied by engaging herself in the venture.

“I have nothing to regret,” she said adding that she was is completely enjoying the project and that floriculture was part of her hobby. Providing job opportunity to the unemployed youth in her farm, according to her, was a matter of ‘greatest satisfaction.’ She has some words for flower growers too: Hard work, dedication and patience are the key components to excel in any venture, she asserted. People cannot become a farmer unless they recognize the value of hard work and dedication, she told the visiting journalists at her farm recently.

Also maintaining that there is a high demand for flowers, Akhruzou stressed on the need to take up floriculture on commercial scale. She also exuded confidence that many people will take it as a hobby and focus on large-scale production. Adding weight to her passion, Akhruzou is coming up with another Anthurium unit. An observer was of the view that such a unit will reflect plus points in her journey of excellence in the floriculture industry.
