Students during the anti drug rally held in Mon. 

 

MON, OCTOBER 27 (MExN): The District Administration and District Executive Force Mon in partnership with Mon Users Network, All Nagaland Private School Association Mon Unit, Mon Town Students; Union, Toxic Peace, Mon Chamber of Commerce and DAPCU have organized an anti drug rally on October 24 at Council Hall Mon on the theme ‘The More You Use Drugs, The Less You Live.’ 


Thavaseelan K, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mon while delivering a welcome address mentioned that the programme was organized with the objective of creating awareness on the dangers of drug abuse and addiction among the general population and the youngsters in particular.


Dr.Chenjei Konyak, Medical Officer, in his presentation shared about the ill effects of drug abuse, and urged everyone to understand the problem and play a positive role at their own level. He further encouraged the participants to initiate Anti-Drug Club in Educational institutions and Wards to educate people to say “NO to drugs and to STOP who take drugs”.


Short speeches were shared by Longching, a member of Mon Users Network and P Angchai, Counsellor, Observation Home Mon, while special songs were presented by Pongjei K and Ngipkhao K. 


Besides presentation of skit by Police Baptist Church Mon and a short documentary film on drug abuse produced by Konyak Baptist Church Mon was also shown, while a dance was performed by Amigos followed by sharing on ‘Why I don’t do Drugs’ by students of ANPSA, Mon Unit.


The theme song against Drug Abuse for Mon which was composed and sung by Samuel Konyak was officially released during the event.


Imnalensa Sanglir, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Mon in his vote of thanks appreciated the programme resource persons, the ANPSA for mobilizing school students and teachers, Toxic Peace for arranging Sound System, and the Mon Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI) for sponsoring refreshment for participants and the co-organizers for their involvement in making the programme a grant success. 


Earlier, around 700 students along with teachers from 18 Schools in Mon Town marched from their respective schools with placards (on the theme) towards the Council Hall Mon where the formal programme was held.


The district level programme which was chaired by T. Chingmei K, President, Mon Town Students’ Union, began with invocation by Ashim, District Chaplain and concluded with benediction by Metpei, Chaplain, Gospel Outreach Ministry and Rehab Centre.
