 
                          
                  
Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): Anti-Rabies Vaccination camp cum awareness programmme on the threat of Zoonotic diseases from consumption of meat was conducted at Town hall, Tseminyu Town on July 26.
Jointly organized by A.H & Veterinary services Department and ADC Office Tseminyu, the programme was attended by church leaders, NGOs, Youth leaders, GBs etc. attended the program, informed a press note Dr. Gwazenlo Tep, VAS, Office of the Sub-Divisional A.H & Veterinary Services Officer Tseminyu It was organized to make people aware of importance of timely vaccinated in dogs with ARV, risk of rabies and its prevalence and to encourage healthy meat consumption so as to avoid contracting disease from meat source, it said.
The resource person Dr. Khrisamhazo Rhetso emphasized on the risk of consuming unhealthy meat as a number of diseases (as high as 65% of infectious disease is Zoonotic) has been reported to infect human from animal sources, it said. He further cautious people who handle meat specially butcher to be more careful while handling meat because they are potentially a high risk group to get infection from the animal sources, it added.
It further informed that Dr. Joseph M. Angami dy. CVO Kohima spoke on the risk of Rabies and how dogs should be vaccinated with ARV from time to time as the dogs are the main source of Rabies to Human. He also encouraged about meat inspection in the town. Theodore Yanthan, ADC Tseminyu, encouraged about safe and healthy handling and consumption of meat and also urged the pet owner to be more responsible while keeping the pet dog, it said.
