Any solution must include executive, legislative, financial autonomy: ENPO

AK Mishra to meet ENPO today

Dimapur | January 14

Government of India’s representative for the Indo-Naga political talks, AK Mishra, is currently in Nagaland. However, his visit this time is focused not on the broader Naga political negotiations but specifically on the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) for the eastern Nagaland region, led by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO).

Official sources confirmed that Mishra arrived in Dimapur on January 14 and is scheduled to meet the ENPO delegation on January 15 at the Nagaland Police Complex in Chümoukedima. Mishra, heading a three-member team from the Ministry of Home Affairs, is tasked with negotiating with the ENPO on this matter.

Following his arrival, Mishra also paid a courtesy visit to General Anthony Shimray, army chief of the NSCN (IM), at his residence, offering condolences for the recent passing of Shimray's wife.

Meanwhile, the eight tribal bodies of the ENPO issued a statement ahead of the upcoming tripartite meeting, asserting that any solution to the Frontier Nagaland issue must include “Executive, Legislative, and Financial autonomy.”

The ENPO’s Press and Media Cell on Tuesday evening stated that the Frontier Nagaland Territory was a creation of the Government of India, and therefore the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) must “table the clarity of its stance in resolving the historical and political aspirations of the Eastern Nagas without further delay.” It also appealed to all Eastern Nagas that FNT should be pursued and anticipated democratically.

The ENPO, meanwhile, cautioned against the formation of the Eastern Naga Unemployed Youth Front.
