DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 4 (MExN): The Ao Senden has issued an ultimatum to the Nagaland government, demanding immediate repairs to the deteriorating VK Town-Doyang stretch of NH 61. The Ao Senden has given a 30-day deadline for repairs, warning of independent action if the government fails to comply.
In a letter addressed to Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, who is also in charge of National Highways, the Ao Senden said that with the Mokokchung-Mariani (NH 702D) and Mokokchung-Amguri (NH 61) roads also unfit for light vehicles, NH-61 remains the sole option for commuters and patients in need of urgent medical care.
“This National Highway has become increasingly unfit for travel, subjecting citizens to undue hardship,” the statement read, adding that the situation reflects a decade-long neglect of crucial infrastructure needs. The Ao Senden emphasized the need for the government to identify and hold responsible those officials whose negligence has allowed the situation to deteriorate.
The Ao Senden resolved that if the government fail to act within this timeframe, it would pursue actions “deemed befitting.”
