Ao Senden reaffirms opposition to 33% women quota

DIMAPUR, MARCH 15 (MExN): The Ao Senden has reaffirmed its strong opposition to the implementation of 33% women quota in Nagaland. In a letter addressed to the President of Naga Hoho, while reminding of its stand on the issue also submitted a copy of the Ao Senden General Conference Resolution adopted on February 17, 2012 on the matter of 33% women reservation. The letter to the Naga Hoho was issued by Dr. Sangyu Yaden President of Ao Senden. The letter informed about resolution clause No. 5 where in was stated as such: “On the matter of 33% women reservation, the Ao Senden has discussed the issue on several occasions and re-affirmed against its policy because it is against the spirit of our customary practices. Therefore, the Ao Senden in its General Conference re-affirmed once again the past resolutions not to allow implementing this policy in Ao area. Further, the General Conference has authorized its Federal Assembly to pursue the matter of implementing the adopted resolution.”
