Ao Students Union Kohima observes Students' Day

Kohima, October 2 (MExN): The Ao Students Union Kohima observed ‘Students' Day’ at Molu Ki Paramedical Colony, Kohima on October 2.

Director IPR, Limawati Ao who was the main speaker said everyone wants recognition and admiration for what one has done, but to get this recognition one needs to be original and it should not be an imitation of another person’s personality or work.

He called upon the students to be rooted to their culture and identity since knowing one’s background and history helps a person or a society move forward. He said "if we don't know our language, culture or history it will be a hindrance for us in our socialized community, even though we become rich and powerful." He encouraged the students to read the local dialect newspapers as ‘culture is language and language is culture’ and by reading these papers we learn not only our language but also know more about our culture.

SDO (C) Jakhama, Alemyapang Longchar in his exhortation called upon the students to change with the changing time as the world now is full of challenges and only the fittest can survive. He also said that one should not develop negativity when others have achieved something but try to do better than what others have achieved. He said "our community back home is looking up to us and to be led forward by us, as the youths are the leaders of tomorrow."

The AKTK Meritorious Award 2018 which is awarded to HSLC and HSSLC Top 20 toppers were given to Chubakatila, Mezhur Higher Secondary School; Washirenla, Fern Wood Higher Secondary School and Limasangla, Kohima Science College. The toppers received a certificate of merit and cash award.
