Ao village attempts to link past with present

DIMAPUR, MAY 1 (MExN): For the villagers of Mopungchuket settled in Dimapur, Moatsu the premier festival of the Aos was celebrated with a difference as elders and youths of the village came together to interact on cultural practices and attempting to link the past with the present and looking at the challenge of maintaining the strong tradition of social responsibility and networking among the villagers.

Speaking on the occasion, Takosashi, President Mopungchuket Union Dimapur called on the youths present to shoulder more responsibility in the task of running the affairs of the village in general and of the Dimapur union in particular. He expressed hope that the emerging generation of youths from Mopungchuket will be able to contribute to the moral and physical upliftment of the village in the days to come.

Several elders also spoke during the occasion passing on valuable lessons on culture and social practices. The youths who participated in the interaction expressed appreciation to the elders present especially to the present ‘Pangsong’ team of office bearers for initiating such a programme on the occasion of Moatsu.

Today’s meeting also resolved that the youths of the village will assist in the activities of the Mopungchuket Union Dimapur especially during social gatherings such as meetings, festivals, funerals etc. Two separate youth teams have been chosen to undertake more responsibility of the union which will also act as a cultural link between the past, present and future. A sumptuous Moatsu feast was prepared during the occasion. Traditional songs were also presented by the youth teams present. Today’s meet was chaired by Mr Lendersang and was held at the residence of Nungsangkumba, Pansong President, Signal Angami colony, Dimapur.
