Citizens of Aonokpu Village under the aegis of the Aonokpu Senso Mungdang and Putu Menden (Village Council) observed ‘Black Day’ at Aonokpu Community Hall on October 5, “to show resentment against a sub-clan for defiling the sanctity of the Village Council.”
Recalling the incident that took place on the night of October 5, 2017, Nungsentiba GB, Tekasashi GB and Ayutemjen Imchen, Council Chairman, who were the eyewitness alleged that a particular sub-clan from the village started “attacking other members of the village by forcibly entering homes of the Village elders at the death of the night, which ultimately culminated in killing the Ox belonging to the Village Council, thereby defiling the sanctity of the Village Council.”
They added that this entire act led to “instilling fear into the minds of the people in general.”
Addressing the citizens of Aonokpu on the first anniversary of Black Day, AR Wati, IFS, Rtd, pointed out that the day is observed to consecrate the Village Council (Putu Menden) by seeking God’s mercy and also to remove fear from the minds of the village community and at the same time to restore peace and social order. He stated that it is everyone’s responsibility to uphold the truth and justice and take measures to safeguard the Village from such occurrence in future.
“You cannot deviate from the truth, we have to live in peace and tranquility, we have to restore solidarity of the people towards building a strong Village institution; a spirit filled church and strive towards economic and social progress for generation to come,” he stated.
Marking the day, citizens of Aonokpu also marched towards Atu-Yimrong where a mass prayer was held. Earlier, the programme was chaired by L. Akumba Longchar, President, Aonokpu Senso Mungdang and vote of thanks was pronounced by Er. Imyulangba Ao.
