APO demands ‘revocation of threat’ to Neiphiu Rio

Dimapur, Jan 14 (MExN): Deeply disturbed by the NSCN-K threatening Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his family and ‘his entire generation’, as reported in a section of the local media, the Angami Public Organization demands the threat be revoked at the earliest ‘so that no trail of bitterness is left behind’. The executive council of the APO had a marathon session on January 13 and unanimously adopted the decision.

Expressing deep agitation by what the APO stated is threat hurled against Rio, his family and his entire generation by NSCN (K) spokesman Kughalu over the issue of NSCN-IM General Secretary Th. Muivah’s security, the apex Angami public body placed this on record: “The APO is perturbed by the threat because it threatens the very survival of the Rio family and his entire generation.”

Expressing strong censure at the “dreadful threat” at an entire Angami clan, the APO in no uncertain terms slammed it as “undemocratic, devoid of reason and rational thinking and beyond the law of the land.” The APO strongly opposes this dreadful threat against and entire Angami clan and it is not acceptable to the Angami people, it stated.

“The threat against Rio’s clan and generation portends a terrible tragedy, a nightmare of stark terror and chilling bloodbath against an Angami clan which is beyond any reasonable and clean imagination. There has been too much bloodshed in Nagaland, and God forbid that the tragedy continues. Therefore, the APO vehemently resents and opposes the threat, and demands that the threat against Rio’s clan and generation is revoked without delay. If ever the threat against the Rio family and entire generation has been pronounced on the spur of a moment without really meaning it, it should be revoked so as to set things right and so that no trail of bitterness is left behind” it said.

The APO also placed on record that freedom of expression is an inalienable democratic right: In a democracy, people may have various shades of opinion and the present Government of Nagaland, headed by Rio, is a duly elected government under the Constitution of India. As such the Chief Minister has to toe in the line of the directive of the Central Government in regard to framing the Government’s policy. “The APO is aware that both the NSCN (1M) and NSCN (K) are maintaining ceasefire with the Government of India, and the Government of Nagaland is duty bound to provide security to the leaders of both the political groups which are under ceasefire terms with the Government of India as and when directed. Hence the Chief Minister has no other option but to follow the directives of the Centre” the APO stated while expressing bewilderment how the NSCN (K) spokesman could take the ‘extreme step to hurl a threat to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his family and his entire generation for his Government’s policy as per Delhi’s directives.’
