Appeal for drivers on election duty

Dimapur: All India Government Drivers’ Federation (Central Committee) has appealed that the drivers on election duties should be allowed to cast their votes in proper manner as they have the right to vote. In a representation submitted to the Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India, regarding various problems of the drivers on election duty, AIGDF (CC) Secretary General, Milan Raj Banshi, also stated that during election duty, “misuse of vehicle is done by some authorities and pressure to remain on election duty are also being thrown on the drivers.” This will have to be stopped by “your General Order,” the representation demanded.

It further highlighted that the drivers have to stay long hours outside the office which sometimes continue till night, while detailing the duties. Therefore, Secretary General requested that basic needs like lodging, provisions etc be provided to the drivers. The representation also stated that Election Commission should take responsibility of not only the government drivers, but the private drivers on election duty under any circumstances.
