A press release issued by WRSUN president Aga Rengma and RSUD general secretary Zenyhun Tep informed that the two along with Human Rights Law Network, Nagaland (HRLN) and others today visited the relief camps at Santipur “to check on the living standard of the camp being maintained by the administration.”
The team visited two of the camps near Santipur police station and talked with the affected victims as well as various leaders and representatives present. One of the representatives of the administration claimed that the Authority is providing all necessary materials. However, the release said, it was learnt from the volunteers and the victims that most of the relief materials are being poured in by the civil societies of both Assam and Nagaland whereas KAAC is not providing materials in sufficient quantities.
Moreover, it expressed shock that officials there refused the relief materials brought by the HRLN representatives saying they have to first get consent from the Civil SDO at Bokajan in order to donate their materials.
In one of the camps, the note stated, there was no provision of electricity, neither any other visible relief materials. “In fact, the victims claimed that the very rice they were cooking when we reached was donated by the neighboring people and other commodities were bought with their (victims) own contributions.”
The release added that the photographs and statements of the victims from both the camps as well as the status of the relief camps will be sent as a report to the Human Rights Law Network, Guwahati unit. Meanwhile, HRLN representatives visited the SDO civil at Bokajan to notify him of whatever is still required at the camps, specially urgent proper medical facility.
