Former members write to Chief Minister
Mon, September 15 (MExN): The appointment of members of Adhoc Town Council (ATC) in Tobu has been questioned by former members of the ATC.
In an open letter written to Nagaland Chief Minister (CM) Neiphiu Rio on September 15, Former Vice Chairman ATC Tobu, L Kaiba Konyak and ATC member A Yenso Konyak sought his attention regarding the appointment made by the Advisor DUDA in his official writing pad as members of Adhoc Town Council/ Urban Local Bodies.
A copy of the appointment letter, reportedly issued by N Bongkhao Konyak, Advisor DUDA on August 28 this year was also attached with the letter to the CM.
The former ATC members mentioned that, as the result of the ULB Election was kept in abeyance, ward chairmen or representatives excluding those undeclared ULB candidates were “democratically selected” to assist the administration for the smooth functioning of the town led by Vice Chairman and secretary.
This was done in consultation with the Administration and public of all wards, they added.
“However it is unfortunate that the Honb’le Advisor DUDA has personally selected/appointed new members without seeking public majority on his self interest which is totally illegal and is against the democratic norms of the country,” they alleged.
In this regard, they sought clarification from the CM on whether the Government of Nagaland has entrusted the Advisor DUDA to select/ make appointment directly/ personally without consulting the general public or the person concern /ward/town as well as the general administration.
“If so, we would like to know the official notification of the state government regarding the authorization order entrusted for appointment of members to the urban local Bodies,” they stated.
If not, what action would be taken against the Advisor DUDA “for violation of government policy,” they queried.
The letter approached the CM to personally declare/ notify order for counting of election result which was kept in abeyance, especially for Tobu Town Council.
