In appreciation of AAI

Daragapathar, Dimapur

Living in 3rd Mile area of Dimapur, since there are no proper places to take a morning walk, I usually go for a walk on the road leading to Dimapur Airport. Over a period of time, observing the increasing amount of trash littering this road as also the Nullah beside the road, I had written a couple of letters to Airport Authority of India (AAI) suggesting that they should clean up the garbage piling up inside their perimeter.

I was pleasantly surprised recently to see that they had acted on the suggestion and also called me to say they had cleaned up the garbage. While congratulating the AAI for getting their act together in clearing up the trash, I would also like to remind them that cleanliness is not a one-time action but a continuous process. Slogans like Swach Bharat’ or Ek kadam Swachta ki Aur’ are fine for creating awareness but slogans per se will not clean up our garbage. We need to pull up our sleeves and get our hands dirty if we are serious about cleanliness.

Dimapur, apparently is one of the dirtiest cities in India as reported in the media recently. Hopefully a clean Airport will set the right tone and motivate us to clean up our city.
