AR apprehend two in Arunachal Pradesh

Kohima, July 18 (MExN): One NSCN (K) cadre and one NSCN (R) ‘over ground worker’ were arrested during separate operations by the Khonsa Battalion and Jairampur Battalion under the aegis of DAO in Wakka village and Jairampur town in Arunachal Pradesh on July 16.     A press release from PRO (Defence) Col C Konwer informed that based on specific intelligence input about presence of cadres in Wakka village, the Khonsa Battalion swiftly launched an operation resulting in the apprehension of one NSCN (K) cadre.     The PRO release identified the cadre as one Tonpha Pansa, a ‘Sergeant of NSCN (K).’ A pistol and live ammunition of various weapons were recovered from him, it said.     Meanwhile, in a similar operation launched by the Jairampur Battalion based on specific intelligence about presence of cadres in Jairampur town, one Wangwa Hathum, an ‘over ground worker’ of NSCN (R) was apprehended. Post spot interrogation the ‘over ground worker’ admitted allegiance to NSCN (R), the release said.     The arrests are a major blow to the extortion activities carried out by various groups group in the area, it added.
