
KOHIMA, AUGUST 3 (MExN): The 3 (Naga Hills) Assam Rifles under the aegis of the HQ IGAR (N) has claimed to have “busted” the “financial network” of NSCN (K). They apprehended a person from Signal Basti, Dimapur, alleged to be the ‘Finance In-charge’ of NSCN (K) and involved in tax collection in Kohima and Dimapur.
“Based on an intelligence tip from local affected civilian regarding illegal tax collection by NSCN (K),” stated a press release from PRO, Assam Rifles, “troops of 3 (NH) Assam Rifles conducted a search operation on 31 July and apprehended” one S K Asumi, resident of Y Zimo colony, Zunhebuto, allegedly the “Finance Incharge” of NSCN (K). He is accused of collecting tax from Kohima and Dimapur, operating from Signal Basti.
Documents such as “tax challans, tax receipts, tax collection register, cash memos, notification of NSCN (K) were recovered regarding involvement of the accused as the finance incharge of NSCN (K) for Kohima and Dimapur districts,” stated the PRO of the AR. Further, “His continuous coordination with SS Col Isak Sumi, PRO finance administration on phone and social media and letter pads of the outfit along with 15 sim cards of various network providers, cash Rs. 30,520/- and other incriminating documents were also confiscated from his possession.”
It was informed that the individual was handed over to the Dimapur Sub urban Police station by the Assam Rifles on August 1, “after obtaining codal formalities.”
According to the press release, the apprehended person accepted that “he has been collecting tax” and is also said to have “confirmed” that he had “collected about ten lakh rupees during last one and half years from the civilians.”
