The Assam Rifles today celebrated Veterans’ Day with the members of Assam Rifles Ex Servicemen Association in Kohima and Wokha under the theme “We Care, We Share.”
In Kohima, the day was observed under the aegis of IGAR (N) was attended by 80 Ex-servicemen from different parts of Kohima district including gallantry awardees, veer naris, widows and their dependents.
The event started with veterans visiting multiple stalls which were installed for facilitation of the veterans. They were given medical help by medical specialists, ENT specialist and by medical officer.
The veterans were informed about various beneficiary schemes and their grievances were also addressed. A booth was established to resolve banking issues with SBI Bank.
A cultural event was organised for the veterans where the event started with the dazzling performance of jazz band followed by songs of ARESA members and Vikoule Tase of Kohima. The event culminated with the performance of unit Khukri dance.
The felicitation ceremony for veterans was also organised in which Deputy Inspector General Brig J B S Rathi felicitated Veer Nari, Galantry awardees and all Ex-servicemen.
In Wokha, the Veteranss Day was observed at Wokha COB under the aegis of Chieswema Battalion. The event was organised to commemorate the bravery and sacrifices of the national heroes. 67 veterans, 1 Veer Nari, 17 families, and 6 children attended the event.
Col Rohit Jakhar, Commandant of the Chieswema Battalion Assam Rifles highlighted the importance of Veterans Day. He remarked that the Assam Rifles is honored to host this celebration, and will remain committed in supporting the veterans and their families in any way they can.
During the programme, a medical camp was also organized allowing veterans to access healthcare professionals and services to ensure the well-being of the attendees. Additionally, canteen facilities were also made available to veterans and their families.
Furthermore, a wreath-laying ceremony was also conducted remembering and honoring the sacrifices made by the brave-hearts and their families. Later, an entertainment and games session was conducted.
