AR conduct drug awareness drives across Nagaland

Dimapur, June 10 (MExN): With an objective of educating and spreading awareness on drug abuse as well as HIV/AIDS, Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) conducted various events across several locations in Nagaland.  

On June 7, 32 Assam Rifles conducted an awareness drive on ‘Drug Free Nagaland’ in Naharbari, Dimpaur. The platform was used to spread awareness amongst parents and elders about the ill effects of drug abuse and importance of protecting youth from such menace, the AR said in a press release. It was attended by around 40 locals from Naharbari and neighbouring villages.  

The 7 AR also conducted a Joint Campaign with a motive to achieve ‘Drug Free Nagaland’. The Medical Officer of the unit interacted with 55 youth and educated them about side effects of drug on individuals and society.  

On June 8, the 9 AR organized a workshop in Chizami “to sensitise people on Drug Abuse and HIV/AIDS.” More than 300 persons of Chizami, including VCCs, GBs, youth, and school children participated in the workshop, another AR release said. Ketho Angami, Program Coordinator, Project Sunrise, Kripa Foundation in his lecture emphasized upon substance abuse, alcohol and narcotics, it said. Bendang, Coordinator, RRTC Kripa Foundation emphasized on having awareness about HIV/AIDS, it added.  

As a part of first phase campaign, a sensitisation workshop focusing on awareness on HIV/AIDS and drug abuse was conducted in Pfutsero on June 7. More than 150 people of Pfutsero, including VCCs, GBs and Youth from various villages in Pfutsero sub-division participated in the workshop.  

The workshop was organised by 9 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 5 Sector IGAR (N) along with Lightway Society, Kalos Society Pfutsero and Kripa Foundation.  

During the workshop, Ketho Angami, Program Coordinator, Project Sunrise, Kripa Foundation emphasized on substance abuse, drug, alcohol and narcotics while Bendang, Coordinator, RRTC Kripa Foundation created awareness on HIV/AIDS.  

The program objective was shared by Vesusa Tetseo, Project Director, Lightway Society while the closing remark were articulated by Kupehi Losou, Director, Kalos Society.
