AR personnel along with community members conducting Earth Day activities in Peren on April 22.

DIMAPUR, APRIL 23 (MExN): The Assam Rifles conducted programmes in parts of Nagaland to observe Earth Day on April 22.
A series of cultural and competitive events at were conducted at Assam Rifles Public High School, Jalukie. Children performed various cultural events including themed skits, group dances and songs in presence of Principal Dr Neha Gupta, all teachers and chief guest Dr Prabhat Kumar, IFS, District Forest Officer Peren.
The events were themed on preservation of environment and afforestation and how global warming and pollution are affecting the health of this planet. Children delivered speech and poems on the theme.
The chief guest delivered an educative speech on the theme and motivated children to take initiative and bring upon change at their level. Inter House Face Painting & Drawing Competitions were also organized where children showcased their talent and innovative ideas towards safeguarding and making the earth greener. A total of 14 teachers and 110 children participated in the celebration.
Meanwhile, the AR organised a tree plantation event and other awareness programmes in various areas of Peren district. The AR personnel reached out to areas like Athibung, Bamsikilwa, Impai, Ngalwa and Old Poilwa and carried out tree plantation in coordination with other civil agencies and populace.
Awareness lectures were also conducted for school children and civil populace on adoption of sustainable practices towards environment preservation and plastic pollution. Locals were encouraged to assist in aforestation.
The lectures also emphasized on how responsible reforestation programs can stabilize land from erosion or natural disasters, improve soil health and groundwater recharge, promote native and endemic fauna, and provide economic development for nearby communities. A total of 99 villagers participated in various events.
