AR holds tree plantation drives, outreach efforts in Nagaland

Kohima, July 11 (MExN): The various battalions of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N), carried out various plantation-cum-awareness programmes as well as outreach efforts across its jurisdiction in the recent past.

 A press release from PRO HQ IGAR (N) informed that the activities were conducted in Dimapur, Mokokchung, Longleng, Kohima and Mon Districts of Nagaland as well as Changlang District in Arunachal Pradesh. 

Dimapur Battalion:  The battalion carried out a tree plantation drive at Ekrani Pathar, Eralibil and Aoyimti Village, Dimapur on July 9 where a variety of flower and fruit bearing plants were planted. 

The plantation drives were organised with a view of spreading awareness on the need for conservation of plants and trees and their importance in maintaining the ecological balance, the release said. Booklets on plantation were also have been handed over to villagers during the drives. 

 Mokokchung Battalion: On July 2, the battalion organised tree plantation drives across Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon Districts under the theme, ‘Reimagine, Recreate, Restore’. 

The initiative is aimed to raise the awareness amongst local population about the importance of relentless plantation to protect the environment and to invigorate the ecosystem, the PRO release informed. 

Saplings of various varieties were planted by COB along with local volunteers following COVID protocols, it added.  

Ghaspani Battalion: The battalion interacted with village elders, chairman and Gaon Buras of Peducha, Kiruphema Bawe, Kiruphema Basa and Jotsoma villages under Sechu Zubza sub-division of Kohima district on July 9. 

As part of the outreach efforts, discussion on the prevailing security situation, COVID-19 pandemic, emergent need for vaccination, awareness on threats posed by unidentified aerial objects like drones as well as employment avenues for youth and women were discussed, the release said. 

In addition to participation of the locals, a total of 46 village council authorities including Chairpersons, Secretaries, Youth Presidents and Gaon Buras attended the event, it added. 

Jairampur Battalion: The battalion organised tree plantation drive as part of “Van Mahotsav  Week” at Longvi village, Changlang District, Arunachal Pradesh July 6 where  a total of 165 saplings of various varieties were planted. 

Changlang Battalion: At Manmao, a total of 115 saplings of various varieties were planted during a plantation drive conducted by the battalion. 

On this occasion, importance of trees in soil conservation and reduction of green houses gases were explained, the release added.
