Peren, March 3 (MExN): “Temporary camps” of the NSCN (IM) were reportedly destroyed at Ikiesingram and Beisumpuloa villages, Peren. As per a press release, the incidents occurred on March 1 and 2.
The release, issued by Raidun Pame, GB, Beisumpuloa and Rangnim Pame, GB, Ikiesingram stated that Assam Rifles personnel from Jalukie along with the Nagaland police conducted searches in the two villages looking for NSCN (IM) cadres, who, it claimed have been based in the Khelma Kabai area, Peren since July 2018.
The action of the armed forces greatly alarmed the villagers, who feared a repeat of the pre-ceasefire 1990s, the release said.
The NSCN (IM) cadres were reportedly chased from the “outskirts of Beisumpuloa village” to the Intangki forest. It added that the search by the AR was still on.
As representatives of the villages, it requested the “authorities of both parties to solve the issue peacefully and maintain the harmonious environment in the areas.”
It further requested “NSCN (IM) through this release to call back their 11 cadres to Hebron from our area to prevail the peace,” stating the villagers were “mentally in panic” by “armed cadres’ presence in the area.”
